Get Your House Ready to Sell:
5 Items to Invest In Prior to Listing Your Home
If you’re thinking of listing your home for sale, you may not need to spend as much money getting your house ready as you think. In order to get your house ready to sell, here are 5 easy things to invest in before listing your home:
Invest in Some Pillows and Throws
This is one of the easiest ways to add colour to a room. Think of investing in some pillows and throws that you can add to your couches or beds to freshen up a room.
Pro Tip: If you have a “distinct” colour of paint in that room, try to match the pillow or throw with the same colour or a similar colour to the paint. It will help to take the attention off of the paint and make the standout a little bit less overwhelming.
Spruce Up Your Home with Flowers and Plants
A little bit of greenery and colour can go a long way to making your home feel warm and cozy. When purchasing flowers and plants, try to buy long-lasting flowers that won’t droop by the time the first open house comes around. Don’t forget to water the flowers on a regular basis and throw them out as soon as they start to wilt or brown. You can add these in your kitchen, bathrooms, dining room, and living room to really bring life to areas that are commonly used.
Pro Tip: Don’t go overboard. You want the flowers and plants to accent the home, not over power it.
Add Some Fancy Toiletries
Doing something as simple as adding some fancy toiletries can make your bathroom feel updated and more spa-like. Consider investing in a classy soap dispenser, toothbrush holder and trash can. Clear off your countertops and tubs that contain your regular Head & Shoulders shampoo or Gillette shaver.
Splurge on Crisp, Clean Towels
To create the spa feel in your bathrooms, consider splurging on crisp, clean towels, preferably white. Consider these your official “show” towels – not to be used for personal use! Fold and hang the towels, or roll them up and stage them accordingly.
Make a Great First Impression with New Bedding
The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house for a buyer, and you’ll want to make a great first impression. Bad duvet covers (or worse, no duvet) don’t make a Buyer want to move into your bedroom. When you get your house ready to sell, make sure to invest in a neutral bed covering set (with matching sheets) and don’t forget to make your bed every day. Add some throw pillows to get the real hotel feel, and always make sure the bedroom isn’t just a mattress on the floor.
