PORT MOODY NEIGHBOURHOODS

Port Moody is a relatively small city, with a mix of detached single-family homes, townhouses and condos.

Both Port Moody Centre and North Shore Port Moody subareas will consist mostly of condominiums (high rise and low rise) in the popular Suterbrook and Newport Village communities.

Heritage Mountain and Heritage Woods are on the Northern side of Port Moody nestled amongst the trees, with a mix of both townhouses and large mansion style single-family homes.

College Park and Glenayre span across the West side of Port Moody, with mostly single-family homes that border both North Burnaby and Burquitlam. Belcarra, Barber Street, and Mountain Meadows all offer beautiful single family homes, many with ocean views and treed lots, while Anmore offers luxurious single-family residences and their own private community.

Anmore: Anmore is a ritzy area of Port Moody with many large mansion style homes, in a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood.

Barber Street: Barber Street is a small subarea off of Ioco consisting of detached homes close to the Burrard Inlet

Belcarra: Belcarra is almost it’s own city, and is a large subarea with many estates hidden among the trees and along the water.

College Park PM: College Park is located on the West Side of Port Moody with easy access to Barnet Highway.

Glenayre: Glenayre is detached home neighbourhood bordering North Road and Clarke Road at the base of Burnaby Mountain.

Heritage Mountain: Heritage Mountain is on the North side of Port Moody, with many homes offering beautiful views.

Heritage Woods PM: Heritage Woods is a neighbourhood typically with larger homes that extend all the way up the mountain.

Mountain Meadows: Mountain Meadows is a small residential neighbourhood with easy access to amenities and school.

North Shore Pt Moody: North Shore Port Moody is considered one of the downtown areas of the city with shops and transit.

Port Moody Centre: Port Moody Centre is a neighbourhood with easy access to transit, shops, parks, and recreation.

PORT MOODY NEARBY CITIES

Port Moody is a part of the Tri-Cities, which also includes Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. Port Moody is the furthest West of the Tri-Cities, and also borders the Burquitlam/Lougheed area as well as North Burnaby.

Due to the proximity of other cities, it is easy to enjoy the benefits and amenities of all cities nearby as they are just a short drive or transit away! Coquitlam has Coquitlam Centre Mall, and Burquitlam/Lougheed features the upcoming and revamped Lougheed Town Centre Mall. Skytrain access is easy within nearby cities, with the Evergreen skytrain extension spanning through Coquitlam, Port Moody, and in to Burnaby and Vancouver.

With easy access off of Barnet Highway, Port Moody also has relatively easy access to Vancouver East and Downtown Vancouver for the everyday driver or bus commuter.

PORT MOODY COMMUTERS

The Evergreen Skytrain Line has helped to connect Port Moody and the Tri-Cities to downtown Vancouver and nearby cities so that it’s more accessible than ever. The service connects Coquitlam City Centre through Port Moody to the existing SkyTrain system at Lougheed Town Centre and then runs in to New Westminster, Burnaby, and Vancouver. The main hub in Port Moody is Port Moody Station off of St. John’s street with both access to the skytrain and a bus loop, but Ioco station is located near Suterbrook Village (Port Moody Centre subarea), so that residents in the condo buildings around Suterbrook Village and Newport Village have easy access to both busses and the skytrain.

The West Coast Express is an express bus with limited stops. It stops at Coquitlam Central Station and runs West in to downtown Vancouver. Heading East, it goes as far as Mission. It only operates from Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) with five trains per day running to Vancouver in the morning peak hours and returning in the evening peak hours. It is most used by people working 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm jobs.

EDUCATION & SCHOOLS IN PORT MOODY

Port Moody’s school system is set up as: Elementary K-5; Middle 6-8; Secondary 9-12.

Port Moody is served by School District 43 Port Moody, and offers two public high schools (one additional high school within catchment in Coquitlam), two middle school (two additional middle schools with catchments in Coquitlam) and seven elementary schools (four additional elementary schools with catchments in Coquitlam).

Port Moody offers some of the highest rated schools in the Lower Mainland, as well as IB and French Immersion options. Port Moody Secondary School offers as IB program, and the new Moody Middle School of the Arts in a brand new contemporary building with French Immersion offered. Aspenwood Elementary School is highly rated; Eagle Mountain Middle is newly built; and Heritage Woods Secondary is one of the top-rated schools in BC boasting excellent university admission rates.

Additionally, Port Moody has excellent options for daycare. Port Moody is an excellent city to raise a family, as it has a great demographic of professional young families and is the most sought-after city in the Tri-cities.

Coquitlam, Port Moody’s neighbouring city, is home to the 4,000-student David Lam Campus of Douglas College, which offers university transfer, career-training and academic-upgrading programs. There major university nearby the Port Moody area is Simon Fraser University.

PORT MOODY MARKET TRENDS

In a report created by Port Moody, they are expecting a population of about 40,000 people in 2021 and 45,000 people by 2031. This is only assuming we are able to create enough housing to keep up with the population growth; however, with plans to revamp St. Johns Street for both medium and high density to create a new community hub by Port Moody Station, there should be massive growth in the years to come.

While Port Moody is surrounded by water and mountains, the city and residents are struggling to find common grounds on how to move forward. With the lack of space to create homes and the demand to live in the area, we are expecting to find an upward trend in house prices.

PORT MOODY ENTERTAINMENT AND LIFESTYLE

Port Moody is the City of the Arts! Port Moody has a strong #shoplocal campaign, and there are many local shops that all work to provide a community feel to the residents of Port Moody. Local shopping can be found in Newport Village, with over 50 shops and services, as well as Suterbrook Village with over 20, that offer an array of trendy cafes and restaurants, food services, boutique shops, liquor stores, and every essential outlets.

During the late fall/winter/early spring, The Port Moody Farmer’s Market is a local market that occurs at the Port Moody recreation centre on Sundays throughout various seasons. For the summer months this market moves to Dogwood Pavilion in Coquitlam nearby.

To keep yourself further entertained, there are numerous museums, art galleries and annual festivals – Port Moody is the city of the arts! Rocky Point Park hosts a number of special events to enjoy, including Ribfest, Canada Day/Golden Spike Days, and more, in addition to being an everyday outdoor space to enjoy. You can also hop over to Brewer’s Row, which is a strip of local breweries to enjoy that often have food trucks and a great scene on the weekends.
